Sajama
Standing alone in a high Altiplano desert Bolivia's highest summit is an eroded volcano, dominating all other mountains in the area, strong winds and high altitude make this a challenging summit .
Program :
Day 1. Drive from La Paz to Sajama village at 4250 m at foot of Volcan Sajama (4 hours). Later loading the mules will have hike to basecamp 4800 m by the
Rio Aychuta. In the afternoon plenty of time to relax or photography.
Day 2. After breakfast, will leave basecamp on our way to high camp at 5800 m. The route involves a series of traverses through rock scree, snowfields
and massive andesite towers. 4 hours later will reach the camp this place is very windy.
Day 3. Before sunlight starts our ascend going up in a snow gully that leads straight up to a ridge at base of the snow dome, sometimes dealing
with "penitentes" (snow spikes) the ascent will take us 8 hours aprox. and return to the camp 4 more hours.
Day 4. Two hours descent to trailhead where our transport is waiting to take us back to La Paz city,on the way plenty of opportunities for photography.
